In 2024, a small team of developers and content enthusiasts ran into the same frustrating problem that millions of Instagram users face every day: there was no simple, reliable way to save content from Instagram without jumping through hoops.
Every tool we tried came with a catch. Intrusive ads covering the entire screen. Pop-ups asking to install extensions. Forms requesting Instagram credentials. Suspicious redirects. Some tools worked once, then broke the next day without explanation.
We weren't looking for anything complicated. Just a clean page where you paste a link and get your file. That's it.
Since nothing like that existed — we built it ourselves.
Spector is a free, browser-based Instagram downloader that supports every content type the platform offers: videos, photos, Reels, Stories, and Highlights. No account required. No login. No installation.
You copy a link, paste it, press Download. The file goes straight to your device. Nothing is stored on our servers, and we never ask for your Instagram credentials.
We built Spector around one principle: the tool should get out of your way.
We are a small team — four people who work across development, design, and content. We don't have a corporate address or a PR department. What we do have is a shared frustration with overcomplicated tools and a genuine interest in building something that just works.
Spector started as a side project and grew because people kept coming back. That's still the metric we care about most.
We update Spector regularly to keep up with Instagram's changes. When Instagram updates its structure, downloaders break — usually overnight. We monitor this closely and push fixes as quickly as possible so the tool keeps working when you need it.
We're also expanding our guides and tutorials to help people get more out of Instagram, not just download from it.
